Superintendent's Page

Dear Parents, Families, and Easton Community,

We are happy to welcome everyone back for the start of the 2019-2020 school year. Our buildings are grounds are cleaned, our educators are prepped and ready, and the children are surely full of the back-to-school jitters and the excitement that comes with a leap to a new grade (or a new school!) Whether you are receiving information at home from your child’s teacher(s) or administrator or your child will be bringing it to you this week, you are undoubtedly being inundated with information, requests, policies/procedures, and calendars of dates and future commitments. Things go from zero to one hundred very quickly around here this time of year!

I will, therefore, keep my letter brief and only related to district-level key information.

  1. The first day for students in grades 1-12 is Thursday, August 29th. Kindergarten begins on September 3rd, and Pre-K on September 5th. Here is a link to the full 2019-2020 EPS Calendar. (It will be updated on the district website tomorrow).
  2. Please see the district website ( under the “Parents” tab at the top for information regarding food service, buses, enrollment/registration, before and after school care, fees and tuitions, etc.
  3. The Massachusetts School Building Authority is currently working with Easton’s School Planning Committee on a potential elementary school project. Residents will be asked to participate in two votes regarding this project (Oct. 28th and Nov. 5th). Please see the project website ( ) for more information about these dates, the costs, designs, past and future meetings, and more. Two upcoming Community Forums (Oct. 7th and Oct. 22nd) will provide opportunities for questions and feedback. Forum information is also on the website.
  4. There are a number of road work projects taking place throughout Easton. In particular, there are two projects on route 138 and a sewer project on route 106 and Foundry Street. We have been working with Lucini Transportation to monitor the progress of the road work and have developed a communication plan to notify parents when buses are going to be extremely late.  We will utilize School Messenger (e-mail and phone calls) for this purpose. As with the opening of every school year, it’s going to take a few days for us to get into a consistent pick-up and drop-off pattern, and the traffic in these areas will compound potential delays. We ask for your patience during this work.
  5. The DPW has posted road work updates on their website ( We recommend that parents sign-up for these weekly construction updates to help you with your travel plans if you are dropping off or picking up your children.

If you have specific questions regarding your child, please contact their school. We look forward to working with you to support and educate your children this year. Every year is a big year, and we want every child/young adult to have the opportunities and challenges that are just right for them.  Thank you for your continued support of the Easton Public Schools.
